Care Companion Certification Program

Americans are living longer than ever before and there are not enough caregivers to meet the growing demand for in-home care. As more and more American’s choose to ‘age in place’ or remain in the home environment for as long as possible, the need for high quality private duty caregivers has increased exponentially.

Care Companions LTD has a solution.

Our M. A. P. S. Navigator® Certification  program combines standard caregiver training with state of the art palliative care concepts that have been developed by Dr. Annette Childs.

This program is based on her more than 35 years of assisting individuals and families during times of health vulnerability. Her training program reflects her clinical expertise and teaches caregivers to provide comfort based care principles to every stage of the lifespan.

The M. A. P. S.® Navigator philosophy embraces the fact that while aging and end of life may be mandatory, suffering can be optional.

Annette provides excellent Information I have taken several trainings from Annette. Her courses on caring for the aging and those at the end of life are informative and on point with out being depressing. Quite the opposite, her information and ability to convey a tough topic is soothing, enlightening and hopeful. We will all face this issue one day and I find Annette to be a very good teacher who, in my opinion wants, to alleviate the fear we have regarding this topic and she does it well

M.A.P.S. Care Companion training is a proprietary education program based on the work and teachings of Dr. Annette Childs.

In her decades of direct service to the aging and those near the end of life, Dr. Childs has found that there is often a natural transition point that emerges where the time for medical intervention has passed, and the desire for a more gentle path forward appears.

The lessons prepare Care Companions to meet the unique needs of patients and families who fall into the gap that exists between acute medical treatment and the natural arc of illness and age.

Through evidence-informed research as well as her direct services to clients, Dr. Childs has honed the M.A.P.S. system of care where the focus is on:

M. Managing Symptoms

A. Alleviating Suffering

P. Providing Companionship

S. Supporting Autonomy

This unique caregiver certification program is changing how we care for the aging and the dying, and will elevate your caregiving skills unlike any other training program available.

The Training:

Our three-phase proprietary certification program is unlike any other training program available. It is essentially three certification trainings in one, and at the completion of this program, candidates will have a clear understanding of how to offer multi-phase care through the lifespan.

The first phase of the training (Navigation) covers Advocacy, Personal Assisting, and Practical Problem Solving.

The second phase (Care Attendant) covers basic caregiving concepts like nutrition, body mechanics, medication management, and safety.

The third phase (Hospice Companion) covers palliative care concepts that support those in the last months of life, allowing them to be cared for in a way that minimizes suffering.

Once the training is complete, candidates are certified and licensed as: M.A.P. S. Care Companions- a designation that allows one to function in whatever role is required (Navigator, Care Attendant, or Hospice Companion)
